28th July 2026 Hiking - Walking: Landguard Nature Reserve Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Light airs Surf / Sea State: smooth Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods and hot Max Speed: Distance Covered: 2.50 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Tuesday 28th July - walk **** – Landguard Nature Reserve – sunny periods and hot. Another spell of hot weather so we decided to take our breakfast down to Landguard Nature Reserve parking by the caravans in Manor Terrance at 8.15. There were some top mackerel clouds which lasted all day as we took the path along side of the docks with hardly any birds or rabbits. We made it as far as the little pier just as the tugs were helping off the far berth, just the start of loads of boat action were were lucky enough to see this morning, including yachts, a smaller coaster, a survey boat, the pilot boat, the Stenna ferry and an old barge, just brilliant! We then followed the Orwell to our spot on the old pier to enjoy breakfast in the lovely warm weather before ambling back along the best beach in Felixstowe. We the had a quick visit to the dump and Lidl before heading for home, after sorting out a few pics to send to the TV weather I did my exercises in the garden. I was hoping the breeze would build for an afternoon foil as Mag went to visit Mary by herself! Tuesday 28th July – Windsurf * The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny periods and hot Foil – 10.52 knot max, 6.22 knot ave., 0.28 knot hour, 0.00 knot mile, 8.15 km., 4.05 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Tushingham Bolt 6.50m. It did not look promising for a sail today as the wind was slow to build, Mag returned from a visit to Mary we had a cuppa and cake before I decided to head down to The Dip to check the conditions, a winger was struggling back to shore, way under with a 4m wing, several then turned up to wing and I was tempted to rig-up my 6.5 which was a big mistake as it was way too small. A few of the wingers got going by pumping hard but they all seem to rig too small, the only one to go for it was Andrew Marshall who rigged a 6.5 wing and actually managed to sail down to the pier twice and I never got close to getting flying, I must rig bigger in the future but my old hands are not keen on hanging onto big heavy rigs!
